Video Exclusive: That Clare – That Other

We are delighted to premiere the video for That Other, a fierce new single from Teesside’s own That Clare – set for release on 25th September.

Sonically, the track captures the spirit of Suicide and Television to conjure up a raw, driving punk rock offering packed with fuzzed up roadhouse energy, potent vocal attacks and carnivalesque synth lines. The track captures the uneasy pulse of 2026 and demonstrates why That Clare is one of the region’s most important political songwriters. It’s a sharp, angry mirror held up to rising far-right ideology and the media machine driving it, countered by a powerful message of community resistance. Written, recorded, and produced by Clare in her home studio, That Other is the third taste of the eclectic trans artist’s upcoming debut album, Social Konstrukt.

The accompanying video, featuring appearances from Hexham Pride organizer Alice Skye and iconic activist Mark McGowan (The Artist Taxi Driver), brings a visual element to That Clare’s anger.

Here, the artist tells us more about the track and the video…

“I think in a way its my most important single so far, in terms of what it is discussing. Recognising that we are all being pitted against each other to serve the interests of a financial elite but we are all in the sights. However you carve up society it hits us all to some extent. You choose to other people, well as the words say I AM THAT OTHER. This is a celebration of the push back, that we are all amazing and valued. You are enough.

“I wrote this song a few years ago though I didn’t release it then, but its never been more relevant now. I took inspiration on the music style from some early punk electronic pioneers such as Suicide, and its meant to sound harsh to emphasize the subject matter. I wrote, produced and recorded this myself in my home studio, and production is something I’m looking to develop more over the coming years so watch this space.

“The video, I produced too and I was amazed at the support I got being offered additional content to include from the likes of photographer Alice Skye who runs Hexham Pride, and The Artist Taxi driver well known for their protest artwork together with clips of my friends such as Jade Mia Broadhead & Gary The Hat.

“I’m really proud of it, That Other is one of my favourite tracks on my electronic heavy album SOCIAL KONSTRUKT and I think the video is the perfect backdrop. Protest punk movements are the sound of our times and as much as anything I want to get a message across with this single as well as really enjoying playing it, and it’s the way I round off my live performances.”
