Alt‑rock/shoegaze outfit Prospect of Power are set to drop their brand new single Your Hand on 10th July, and we’re delighted to be given an exclusive listen ahead of its release.
This latest offering leans into lo‑fi ambience complete with a heartbeat pulse punctuated by sharp crashes, vocals drifting from laid‑back melody to spoken word fragments buried in the haze, and guitar lines that slowly darken into post‑punk territory before the drums finally break open and drive everything to a crashing finish.

“Your Hand is a song we wrote back in July, just a few weeks before our first ever gig at The Cluny 2 supporting TV Death. It started with a bit of improv in the practice room, then began to take shape in a wine-fuelled demo session at Sarah’s house. Having played it at every show, it’s now reached its final form as an angsty, bewitching song about heartache and self-discovery. The verses are driven with feminine rage, whereas the spoken word section toys with the larger role power plays in relationships. Coming to the realisation that being sensitive and true to one’s self “not afraid to let things play out, heart on sleeve” is where real strength lies.
“Your Hand and (previous release) Chapter One are unintentional sister songs (they were written about 7 months apart, with very different backstories). The former is about questioning your own sanity and attempting to start over again, whereas Your Hand is then taking that blame off of yourself, and letting the rage flood out in order to let go.”
