Reliably informed

Teesside singer-songwriter Sarah Johnsone burst onto the scene earlier in the year with her wistful and melodic debut single, Tonight. The track, with its themes of longing and separation, really captured the Zeitgeist of lockdown Britain, as well as the attentions of Spotify playlist curators who put the song on, not one, but five of their playlists.

The video that accompanies the song was filmed and directed by Intranet Girl aka Stefany Uzoh (with drone work from Pete Windle) around the Newcastle area and features a selection of juxtaposing shots that range from the sweet and nostalgic to the dark and sorrowful, all of which accentuate the emotions expressed within the track. We’re delighted to get an exclusive sneak peek at it.

Here, Sarah tells us a little more about the video…
“Instead of following the song in a literal sense, we wanted to involve a couple of locations to show that the thoughts the song speaks of are reoccurring, and that it’s not just ‘tonight’. We also wanted the cinematography to do the song justice, in how it treads the line between dreamy and peaceful yet melancholic. I think the scene where I’m picking the flower petals, echoing the ‘he loves me, he loves me not’ rhetoric does this well.”
