After recently receiving international acclaim with a number 1 on the Ignition Country Charts for previous single Thinking About Last Night, singer-songwriter Hayley McKay releases her latest single Breathe.

Written in Lockdown in May and co written and produced with Newcastle based Hattie Murdoch over Zoom, Breathe is about enjoying the smaller things in life. It’s a well arranged and catchy offering which sees Hayley’s melodic vocal soar above upbeat, gospel tempoed verses and big, distinctively country, choruses.

Accompanying the song is a vibrant, outdoorsy video, which we’re delighted be given an exclusive look at. We asked Hayley to tell us more about it…

“The video to Breathe was filmed across a few locations in the North-East. I particularly enjoyed filming at Saltburn beach as it was a nice excuse to go to the beach and we picked a sunny day for it! Some of the footage with all the hay bails and wild flowers was filmed at a friends farm in Glaisdale, North Yorkshire called Bank House Farm, which is a beautiful place.

The video came together quite quickly and Richard Doney did a great job. It was great fun and it was quite spontaneous getting alode of footage and then picking out the parts we liked. One of my favourite parts in the video was getting on the swings and chucking the leaves, I’m a big kid!

The song is about taking a breather, and trying to not worry too much and make use of the things in life you might take for granted like the free things like going out for a walk and making use of nature and the outdoors. We suddenly had time on our hands, and the pace of life had slowed down which was all a bit strange but I tried to make use of the time I had. I co wrote the song with Hattie Murdoch during lockdown in May, and the melody came straight away and the lyrics followed pretty quickly!”
