Sunderland songwriter Eddie Scott (PICNIC, Mt. Misery), AKA Ice Road Trucker, is set to drop his brand new single, The Vegan Song, on Friday 17th May. But first, he’s kindly given us his single for an exclusive pre-release listen.

This is the third single Eddie has released and, according to him, is the most tongue-in-cheek so far. Its nineties/noughties pop-punk and power-pop influences are there to see and are mixed with more modern lo-fi/slacker rock sounds. The song is wonderfully crafted, rich in charm and character and features loads of moreish harmonies and instrumentation that’ll have you going back for a second listen.

Here, Eddie explains what the track is about…

“The Vegan Song is one of my most stupid songs to date, but it still has a lot of heart. Once I had that first line, I kind of built the story around it, the vegan stuff is just a vehicle to tell another tale of unrequited love.

I usually write my songs from the perspectives of different characters and I often don’t really like them, but they all come from me so I’m definitely hidden in there somewhere. I did fancy a girl who turned out to be a lesbian once, so that’s all me.

It’s a song about a guy who’s willing to try being vegan so a girl will go out with him, please don’t take it too seriously.”
