Sleeping on Television is the ambient electronica solo project for Grant Logan (current drummer in District Attorney and former drummer of The Union Choir and Minotaurs). Based in South Shields, SOT is part of a vibrant creative community formed around local hub, The CustomSpace. Having just released his debut EP, Underworked, Grant tells us more about what’s going on in this vibrant scene.

The CustomSpace is run by The Customs House and managed by Jordan Embleton, Martin Francis Trollope and Jen Stevens.

The space is used for music production, local dance groups, music lessons, rehearsal space, social gatherings, movie nights, cooking lessons and teaching (Autism Able).

The studio side and things is run by Martin Francis Trollope (HarbourMaster). He produces a large percentage of the bands who record there. He has recorded Tom Mouse Smith, Tankengine, Jack Fox,  Sam Thomas, Trev Gibb, HeadClouds, The Railway Club, District Attorney, The Union Choir, The Steve Thomason Band, Plastic Glass, Rain, Eve Simpson and The Kirsty Forster Project.

I started going/recording in The CustomSpace about 2012 when Martin started working there. I’ve known Martin since school and worked with him when I was with The Railway Club, The Union Choir and now with District Attorney. Sleeping on Television’s EP was mastered there and I have recorded countless demos as well.

It’s really an inspiring place for creative-minded people and gives support to people who need it in and around the South Shields area.
