Edinburgh Fringe Festival approaches and July sees comedians from around the UK getting their new shows practised and in tip-top condition ready for the big event. Live Theatre in Newcastle is offering audiences the chance to catch some of the freshest and funniest comedians, from the region and the rest of the UK, before they head north of the border.

Previews kick-off on Tuesday 16 July with F**king Legend by Olly Hawes – a rollercoaster one-man show about socks, sex, love, fear of death and cognitive dissonance that cuts to the core of modern masculinity. Next up is Athens of the North on Friday 19th July, written and performed by Mark Hannah and directed by Fraser Scott, is a new play exploring the people that make up the fabric of the city of Edinburgh, through humanity, love, loss and family. That’s followed on Wednesday 24th July by Tom Lawrinson’s ridiculously entertaining show about family and growing up in a Spanish subterranean cave, Buried Alive (and loving it).

Luca Rutherford will be performing her show Luca Rutherford’s Political Party at Live Theatre on Thursday 18 July which, like all good parties, will include music, dancing and eggs. Then on Thursday 25th July, North East Comedy Send Off, hosted by charismatic stand-up Alex Redman, showcases three home-grown talents including Two-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Lauren Pattison with Big Girl Pants; Sean Lock Comedy Award-nominated comic Lauren Stone’s Cool for Cats and hilarious, storytelling comedian, Lee Kyle with Throwing Bottles Into The Sea

Seeing out the month, on Monday 29 July, is three-time Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee Larry Dean who will be trying out his work in progress show. Prior to the show, Larry will join loveable oddball Alex Redman, for an exclusive evening of chat and candid questions.
