Preview: Uta Kögelsberger – Some Kind of Love: Actions and Reactions to Living on a Damaged Planet

Award-winning artist Uta Kögelsberger brings her latest solo exhibition Some Kind of Love: Actions and Reactions to Living on a Damaged Planet to Newcastle’s Hatton Gallery from Saturday 20th September. Spanning video, photography and sound, the show explores humanity’s complex relationship with nature through four major bodies of work, each reflecting on environmental fragility, resilience and regeneration.

Highlights include Fire Complex, developed in response to California’s 2020 Castle Fire, and Forest Complex, which examines the pressures facing Alpine ecosystems. Off Road investigates ideas of freedom in the American West, while Forest Choir, created with the Brussels Opera Youth Choir, speculates on interspecies communication through sound and care.

Positioned at the intersection of art, activism and ecology, Kögelsberger’s work often operates beyond gallery walls, merging direct action with sensory experience. This exhibition invites visitors to consider how artistic practice can influence environmental understanding and policy, offering a space for reflection and connection.

Part of the nationwide Remember Nature programme, the show runs until 24 January 2026. Entry is free, Monday to Saturday, 10am–5pm.
