Hey team. I hope you’re all well. We finally have all the information for the next Arts Cafe event. Please find it all attached and please let me know if you need any more.

Despite living in a day and age of digital content, people still love to move their eyes away from a screen and tuck into something a little more tangible such as a comic or a zine. You may have a niche hobby or a passion that you feel would be best expressed in a physical publication, if that’s the case, then luckily for you Arts Cafe in Peterlee will be holding a workshop series exploring the world of zine-making and self-publishing.

Theatre-maker and zine maker Mel Sproates, who publishes their own comics and zines such as Hail to the Zine Baby and Stay Home Stay Queer to help marginalised people’s voices be seen and heard, will show examples of zines and encourage participants to take part in some creative writing, collaging and art activities.

Each session will have a different zine genre focus and offers the perfect opportunity to learn a new skill or connect with other creatives. The workshops are for all levels of experience and ability and at the end of each session, you’ll have your very own Mini Zine.

At the end of the workshops, there will also be an opportunity to have your work featured in an exhibition, plus the chance to read or perform your work at a cabaret event held in the Arts Cafe.

The workshops take place every Thursday from 20th April until 25th May, between 4-6:30pm. To book, email ellen.ranson@eastdurhamcreates.co.uk
