An adults‑only after‑hours takeover hits Discovery Museum on Friday 25th September, serves up a hands‑on night of craft, music and late‑night exploring
Discovery Museum’s after‑hours takeover Discovery Nights returns on Friday 25th September with Made at the Museum — a craft‑heavy, culture‑rich wander through the galleries designed purely for grown‑ups. Running 6–9pm, the child‑free event turns the building into an easy-going playground of hands‑on making, gentle chaos and unexpected discoveries, all soundtracked by a live folk set from rising duo Coled Lore at 8.30pm.
The night pulls together an impressively eclectic mix of activities: bobbin lacemaking with Northumbria Lacemakers, Japanese calligraphy, origami and phrase‑learning with Newcastle University’s Japan Foundation, Victorian soutache dress embellishment, Gelli plate printmaking, collage badge making, sustainable gift‑wrapping, Musical Bingo in the café, and the chance to explore material from Tyne & Wear Archives. It’s the kind of line‑up that encourages drifting from one table to the next, trying something new, or simply soaking up the atmosphere with a drink in hand.
With tickets at £10 (plus booking fee – available here) and all activities included, Made at the Museum offers a relaxed, alternative night out — a chance to potter, craft, roam solo or catch up with friends while experiencing the museum in a completely different light.
