Reliably informed

Durham-based David de la Haye is an electronic experimentalist and Bassist in the Monster Ceilidh Band and a member of Jez Lowe‘s The Bad Pennies. He is also a passionate collector of field recordings from marine and freshwater environments.

As part of his Sound And Music commission he is heading a Composer Social for the North-East on Thursday 25th November (8pm) via Zoom. The events are informal and offer a space for composers to connect, socialise, skill-share and problem solve, with a hope it will spark creative collaborations in the future.

David tells us more about his latest project and how it ties in with the social event…
“As part of my Sound and Music Composer-Curator commission, I’ll be conducting underwater sound exploration around the mouth of the River Wear. Surrounding docks, intertidal mudflats and freshwater zones offer space to reimagine historically industrialised areas through the lens of aquatic ecosystems to find a sense of climate justice. I’ll use live music and audio diffusion to bring these submerged environments to the ears of local communities; what can we learn simply by listening? The Composer Social is a chance to meet other composers in the region, discuss our creative approaches and organise collaborations. It is open to all composers regardless of style.”

Composers need to sign up in advance, to do so click here.
