Celebrating the art of writing in all its forms, WRITE Festival returns to The Word in South Shields for its third annual event between Saturday 11th-Friday 24th May. Launching with a day of writing workshops from soap writing sensation Mark Ellis, this year’s outing is set to be even bigger than ever.

If you’re looking to get into the world of publishing, then Inpress Day on Sunday 12th is set to be an illuminating introduction to the business. Gerald Dickens, the great, great grandson of Charles Dickens will be performing Mr Dickens Is Coming!, his show based on the life of his ancestor on Saturday 11th; Glenn McCrory, the first boxing World Champion from the region, will be in conversation with Ed Waugh on Wednesday 22nd, while Rowan McCabe, the world’s first Door-to-Door Poet, will be talking all about his travels on Thursday 23rd.

The Murder Squad, comprised of a criminally talented group of six crime writers from the region, including Ann Cleeves, Martin Edwards and Chris Simms, head to The Word from Saturday 18th; their Readers’ Day sees them joined by forensic expert Helen Pepper for a host of enlightening panel sessions, while Kate Ellis serves up a delicious original Murder Mystery Night called The Case Of The Late Cook. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! Once again, lovers of literature will be well served.
