A project that has crossed oceans to come into being, Jody Bigfoot began writing what would become the foundations of rap duo Trinity Lo-Fi while living in a one-room apartment in Japan. The sudden death of a friend brought Jody back to the UK and a partnership with local prodigy Louie Zico preceded their first album on the influential Renegade Masters label.

The latest EP release, due on 16th April, sees the duo teaming up once again with the diverse soundscapes of Norway’s Helgeland 8-Bit Squad, whose reggae-infused laptop rhythms seem the perfect partner to Trinity Lo-Fi’s eclectic range of MC styles. With track names inspired by classical elements, the EP has an engaging vibe. Air is full of quirky bleeps, sonorous percussion, and what we assume is a smattering of Norwegian lyrics; Earth’s gruff rap is rhythmic; while Fire’s sweet vocals produce a catchy and chilled track, in contrast to the more confrontational and edgy Metal, where female vocals soften the rougher edges; while Spirit’s appropriately dreamy melodic rhymes and the ethereal synth opening of Water are particular highlights.

Trinity Lo-Fi’s appeal is wide-ranging, with hints of reggae, chiptune and grime all in the mix, they promise to produce a riotous live show at the EP launch at ¡VAMOS! Social, Newcastle on Friday 22nd April with Soom T and Ink n Dub DJs.
