It says a lot that if you say ‘trainspotting’ now, your mind would more likely flit to the novel or film than the hobby or seeing trains. The Irvine Welsh novel Trainspotting entered legendary status perhaps after the Danny Boyle film adaptation, with the talented director bringing to life already vivacious pages. It’s now been brought to life for the stage in an adaptation by Harry Gibson, and is at The People’s Theatre in Newcastle until Saturday 21st April.

The gaunt, scrawny gang of anti-heroes – Begbie, Renton, Alison and Co – live a life on the edge in Edinburgh. Hedonistic yet bleak existences, the story is a gritty one of addiction and friendship. Drug-fuelled, urban alienation is a key part of a tale that is as loud and raw as ever.

Choose a no-holds-barred piece of theatre, choose Trainspotting.

Trainspotting is at People’s Theatre, Newcastle on Saturday 21st April.
