One of the North East’s most beloved all-day events, Stockton Calling have been steadily revealing headlining acts for next year’s event, which takes place on Saturday 30th March.

Taking the top spot at The Georgian Theatre will be iconic indie pop band The Bluetones. Coming of age during the Britpop era, the band’s melodic indie approach and hook-filled tunes saw them earn 14 hit singles and release 6 albums, with high points including 1996’s Slight Return from debut album Expecting To Fly.

Second album Return To The Last Chance Saloon spawned several indie pop bangers, including Solomon Bites The Worm and If…, with 2000’s underrated follow-up Science & Nature achieving top 10 success and hit singles in Keep The Home Fires Burning and Autophilia. Having split in 2011, a reformation in 2015 proved the band’s popularity and their music continues to appeal to fans old and new. Next year will see The Bluetones releasing their first new material in 14 years, as well as taking on an extensive UK tour in the Autumn.

Stockton Calling co-promoter and venue manager at The Georgian Theatre, Chris Cobain, is delighted to have landed another big hitting headliner: “Getting the right artists into each venue is one of the biggest challenges when we’re programming Stockton Calling – and by landing The Bluetones, it gives us a fantastically strong headliner to build another great day around.

It’s really exciting to get an artist of this level into The Georgian Theatre for Stockton Calling – they are well known to Teesside audiences and have a sack full of hits to round off the day.”

The band join previously announced headliners The Enemy, who will play the ARC stage, and Corella, who will play at KU. Stay tuned for further announcements next month.

Tickets for Stockton Calling are on sale now priced at £40.
