Reliably informed

As if co-founding Viz magazine wasn’t enough, Simon Donald has branched out into stand-up comedy in recent years and made quite the success of that too. Behind some legendary 2D characters for Viz, he’s shown a knack for creating equally hilarious characters on stage too. There’s a chance to see probably his best creation at The Stand, on Sunday 17th January; as we are treated to a full hour of hapless Geordie market researcher, Barry Twyford, in a remarkably inventive one man show.

It’s sure to be an evening full of lots of silliness and very, very funny, as Barry spends a desperate hour clawing at ways to entertain the crowd, having been thrown from questionnaires to the stand-up comedy world. Video calls to various other characters played by Donald are also part of the show, as we get to see Barry reluctantly enter the world of stand-up comedy, with hilarious consequences. It’s an original show well worth catching, and as if that all wasn’t enough, there’s support on the night from the always brilliant Lee Kyle.
