After a pretty rubbish 2020, it’s nice to kick off 2021 with some positive news about the launch of Seven Bridges, a new radio station in the heart of Newcastle. CEO, Steve Poolton is the man who has made it all happen after experiencing the mental health benefits during his time in student radio. Named after the iconic bridges over the Tyne, the station aims to support those experiencing mental health difficulties by providing a safe space for them to express themselves creatively and be part of something meaningful. They will also provide an open forum to talk about mental health and by doing so making the radio station a ‘well-being station’ for presenters and listeners.

The station is also looking to offer support for those who are struggling to find training or employment by offering training in online media and radio, both on the microphone and behind the scenes.

Several shows have already been lined up for Seven Bridges, including a show called Going Underground that focuses on local music talent and unsigned acts. They will be looking for local acts to submit their music for airplay and doing special one hour shows highlighting that artist and discussing their album.

The station launches on 1st January 2021. To tune in and to find out more, click here.
