It’s been an extremely stressful year for those who work in the music industry, an industry that previous to lockdown was having a serious discussion about the mental wellbeing of those who work within it and that was before all the added worries and uncertainty that the pandemic has created. It’s now more important than ever to talk about mental health in music and so on Monday 7th December at 3pm, Sage Gateshead will be holding a free live stream event Mental Wellness in Music with SK Shlomo & Dr Melanie Grundy via Zoom.

Speaking at the event is award-winning, record-breaking beatboxer, live-looper and producer SK Shlomo whose drive for success caused him to suffer a mental breakdown three years ago. He will be joined by Dr. Melanie Grundy, a GP for the British Association for Performing Arts Medicine (BAPAM) specialising in performers’ health and wellbeing.

Featuring a short performance, conversation and audience questions, this event is for anybody navigating a career in the music industry who would like to hear from two experts in music and mental wellness, sharing their joint wealth of experience and knowledge.

The event will be live captioned and recorded for later streaming on Sage Gateshead’s social media platforms, on Thursday 10th December at 6pm.

If you are a performer and would like a 1 to 1 conversation about a mental or physical health issue, you can sign up for Dr Grundy’s monthly BAPAM clinic with Sage Gateshead here.
