After taking what seems like far too long off to work on other projects (namely opening a bar, the effortlessly cool Zerox near Central Station), Kristian Atkinson and the Screenage Kicks team return this month with an (anti-)Valentine’s Day treat.

The crew have been rightfully lauded for their immersive cinema experiences, which utilise live action, music, costumes and inventive locations to provide a really special night out. “We are bringing back Screenage Kicks because people have not stopped asking us to bring it back!” Kristian says. “We always intended to return to the project but we weren’t sure when, then a few months ago we had a conversation about how much we’d missed doing it so when Valentine’s Day presented itself as a possible SK party, we jumped at the chance to do a kind of anti-Valentines event.”

Their first show back is a screening of Tony Scott’s seminal dark comedy True Romance, taking place at Newcastle’s Assembly Rooms on Thursday 14th February. Penned by Quentin Tarantino, it’s a love story adventure with a typically unusual twist, in which stars Christian Slater and Patricia Arquette shine as the Elvis fanatic and his hooker lover on the run.

Thankfully, it’s looking like the first of many events for the SK team. “Now that we’ve started the ball rolling again we’ve already got the SK bug and we’re in the middle of planning the next three events. This next one is gonna be a bit special, it certainly feels like a bit of a homecoming.”
