Middlesbrough’s innovative arts space Pineapple Black will host a double header of exhibitions this month, with regional artists taking the lead. Pick ‘n’ Mix, which runs at the gallery from Thursday 22nd August-Saturday 14th September, will be an open call exhibition celebrating the work of local artists featuring work across a variety of mediums. As always with Pineapple Black’s exhibitions, the focus is firmly on celebrating the wealth of talent which resides in the region, with the gallery providing a supportive hub for early career artists as well as established international creatives.

DIY art collective Peg Powler will also be exhibiting work at the gallery throughout August. Having taken a break from artistic endeavours over the last year or so, we’re excited to see what they have up their sleeves given their usual output of diverse and unusual alternative contemporary art. Described as a ‘no-drama lo-fi art show’, curators AJ and Rebecca promise drawings, paintings, objects and oddities as part of the collection entitled Peg Powler Art Collective’s Summer Sizzler, which will take over Pineapple Black’s Changed Rooms space.

A preview event on Friday 16th August will bring both of these exhibitions together, with live music from Teesside rapper Shakk and former Figmennt frontman joegarrat, a DJ and complimentary drinks. As an additional bonus, Sad For Life Records will be hosting their next Sad Social on Sunday 25th August, which will provide an opportunity for cultural networking and a chance to check out both exhibitions.
