It’s a night of firsts on Thursday 5th April at Middlesbrough’s TSOne, as the highly regarded Idle Promotions present a cracking Whirling Dervish night which sees the brand new project from Timothy Oxnard (The Magick Godmothers, The Approved, Green Fuzz) perform, alongside the debut show from new local punks The Shakin’ Nightmares.

Oilbirds have only recently taken their first fledgling steps in the region’s music scene, with their debut gig in March reportedly going down at storm at Stockton’s Musiclounge. The band draw on Oxnard’s previous output with his other well-regarded outfits to produce a sound which fuses garage rock with bluesy psych-laden punk, a winning combination indeed. (FYI, the band will also share the stage with one-man blues crackerjack Bob Log III at the Georgian Theatre on Sunday 1st April, if you can’t make this ‘Boro gig.)

Fans of raw, scuzzy punk will find much to love in The Likkor Men’s set, who also join in the fun at TSOne; they’re certain to put a dent or two in your eardrums with their heavy and atmospheric tunes. Brand new punks The Shakin’ Nightmares kick proceedings off, the Redcar four-piece have an altogether cleaner approach to their driving punk rock sound, but it’s no less fun or emphatic.
