For all those men who were complaining about International Women’s Day back in March, here’s a(nother) day especially for you: International Men’s Day takes place on Monday 19th November. In all seriousness, the ‘official day’ aims to raise awareness on a variety of topics, including suicide and homelessness. It’s also serving to promote the work of Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland, who are hosting a fundraising night at The Stand, Newcastle, and are hoping to raise £40,000 this year to help continue their work with women and girls affected by sexual violence.

The line-up for the Men’s Comedy Night features prolific and provocative comic Dane Baptiste, who’s become a regular on panel shows and festival line-ups alike; Teesside’s own Hal Branson, whose superb storytelling wit is a proper delight; former professional wrestler-turned-comedian and all-round lovely bloke Lee Kyle also performs; as does Geordie legend Gavin Webster, who continues his World Tour, and promises new material mixed in with some of his greatest hits.

It’s not a complete sausage-fest though, as the masterful Lou Conran will preside over the evening, providing superlative storytelling and a cheeky manner.
