An ‘electronic rom-com’ of a gay millennial on the hunt for love comes to the region
It can sometimes feel like we live in an age of constant connection through social media; where dating apps can make rejection just a click away, and a bombardment of images can skew our sense of self-worth. Sometimes it’s good to have a reminder that just being yourself should be embraced, and that’s where Manchester-based musical theatre company Leo & Hyde come in. After their award-winning, genre-bending show The Marriage of Kim K, they return with an “electronic rom-com” that helps remind us who we really are.
Coming to Hexham, Alnwick, Saltburn, Sunderland, Barnard Castle and Hartlepool throughout February, Guy tells the tale of a gay millennial on the hunt for love. Unfortunately, he doesn’t feel like he fits into the gay community and a rejection on Grindr pushes him to make some terrible choices, but also to confront the demons within. Featuring a soundtrack of pounding electro-pop bangers, it’s set to be a heartfelt but witty whirlwind tackling everything from bingeing and prejudice to hook-ups and beauty standards. This parable about modern dating in the LBGTQ community – which includes a diverse cross-section of gay men – is set to be an effervescent and empowering blast.
