Reliably informed

It’s the time of the year when we like dishing out our predictions of who will be the region’s breakout artists of this year. And as much as you’d like to acknowledge the ‘what’s hot and what’s not’ list from the bloke you met in the pub, it’s always nice to hear what those with their ears to the ground of the music industry have to say.

BBC Introducing in the North-East recently dropped their tips for 2022 in a special programme presented by Nick Roberts, featuring interviews and music from the ten artists they selected (you can listen to that here).

Some of their past tips have included Trunky Juno – who was BBC Radio 1’s Track Of The Week and performed at BBc Radio 1’s Big Weekend in 2020, Badmind – who performed at last year’s BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend and Ruth Lyon – who featured in Latitude 2021.

Their tips For 2022 are alt-folkster Ceitidh Mac, indie act Chintzy Stetson, singer-songwriter Faye Fantarrow, soul artist Kate Bond, melodic music maker Lizzie Esau, DJ & producer MBP, alt-pop creator Nadedja, electronic party starters NOPRISM, garage rock outfit Pave The Jungle and rapper Sweets. Give them a listen and become a more informed person dishing out local music ‘ones to watch’ advice at the bar.
