Dark alt. indie band Wolfred give us an insight into their sound
Dark alt. indie band WOLFRED release their new single HOUNDED this month; a haunting slab of affecting and cinematic storytelling, accompanied by a beautifully choreographed video created by Von Fox Productions. Here, frontman Wilf tells us more about the project.
Who are you and where are you from?
I’m Wilf Stone, born in Southampton but have my roots in Northumberland and Newcastle.
What is it you do?
I songwrite, perform and compose. WOLFRED is my main project, we just launched so that’s very exciting. I’m lucky enough to have my brother and two of my best friends working with me on that, couldn’t ask for more really. I’ve also composed original music for various theatre productions, most recently a show about the Border Reivers.
How long have you been doing it?
I started playing music when I was six and never really stopped. I’ve had other ‘normal’ jobs the worst of which was at a call centre and the best of which was probably yurt builder. I worked as a chef too which I loved but music has always come out on top for me.
What inspires you?
The fragility of the human experience. Food. The balance of things. The imbalance of things. Food. Anything that engages the senses. Food.
Tell us about your music
WOLFRED is my main project. We’re a four piece dark alternative indie (or so we’ve been told) band based in Newcastle. We just released our first track MOTHER and celebrated by playing The Cluny and selling out which was a lovely thing. We are beginning to build towards the next release HOUNDED, which is coming out on 14th April. I don’t like talking too much about what the music and lyrics mean to me, people will take what they take from it and that’s often more meaningful that being told “It’s about this or that”.
What have you got coming up in the future?
Aside from the single release, we’ve got gigs at Northern Kin and Solfest coming up and we’ll be playing another hometown show this year too so keep your eyes peeled.
Where can people find out more about you?
In all the usual places. We’ve just dropped the video for our first release MOTHER on Youtube – it’s an incredible piece of animation by the fantastic Ed Murray so that’s where I’d start.
