Focus: Point Blanc

Who are you and where are you from?
We are Point Blanc – a four man (the word man is an exaggeration considering we are all under 18) punk-rock band from Sunderland.

What is it you do? 
We take inspiration from the problems we encounter around us, and transform them into songs that we hope people our age find common ground with us in.

How long have you been doing it? 
The original Point Blanc has been around since 2019, but we have already had a few line-up changes along the way. That said, the current line-up has been together well over a year, and we have no intention of stopping!

What inspires you?
Despite each member having their own distinct inspirations, it is our own experiences in our lives that inspire us to write, and it is the reactions of those who come to see us which make us value our live performances so much. Despite our new release being out on the 4th September being our main focus at the moment, it is always our live performances that are at the centre of our work as a band.

Tell us about your music.
Our music, as mentioned, is written using our own experiences in our lives. For example, our song Let Them Be is written about the racial discrimination that is so rife in our society, and our new song ‘Cowpox’ is written as a comedic outlook on our guitarist Lorenzo’s time in hospital, as well as containing an undertone of the poor economic state of the NHS, and calling for big reform and change.

What have you got coming up in the future?
We are unsure as to what the band will do next, apart from to continue what we adore doing: sharing our passion. Our new release Cowpox is our first full-length album and most of our efforts at the moment have been devoted to organising our band release gig at Pop Recs for the same day as our album release. We are extremely proud of our work, and we hope our music inspires those who listen to us.
