We find out all we can about up and coming songwriter Lily Mac ahead of the release of her new single, The Waiting Game.
Who are you and where are you from?
I’m Lily Mac, I’m from Wingate in County Durham, but live most of the week in Sunderland with my Gran and Grandad, and I am a member of the Young Musicians Project based in Sunderland.
What is it you do?
I sing and play guitar, mainly self penned songs with the occasional cover thrown in.
How long have you been doing it?
I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember and playing the guitar since the age of 6. I’ve writing songs from around when I was 10 years old.
What inspires you?
My songs tend to be based around my daily life and learning curves that I’ve come across. But, I take great inspiration from a wide range of artists that I’ve grown up listening to, like Jeff Buckley and Jade Bird.
Tell us about your music
Mainly all of my songs are written on acoustic guitar, but as with my new single The Waiting Game they transfer across to a full band arrangement where I play electric guitar in that instance. My songwriting is very much in the singer-songwriter style, pulling in folk, rock and pop depending on the theme and subject of the song.
What have you got coming up in the future?
Along with the release of my first single, I am playing a number of shows with fellow Young Musicians Project (YMP) members, and hopefully recording a few more tracks for release across 2024.
