Who are you and where are you from?
My name is Jay R, a rapper, singer/songwriter originally from Leeds residing in Middlesbrough

What is it you do?
I turn thoughts into pictured words and relate to the people/listeners through music

How long have you been doing it?
I’ve been writing music for almost 15 years. Music has always been a passion of mine from a young age. I would always write little poems and try to rap them over Coolio’s Gangster’s Paradise and Will Smith’s Boom Shake The Room.

What inspires you?
My uncle was a massive inspiration to me although he was never really into music as such he would always sit with me and help me put a few lines together and always told me “if there was ever anything I wanted to be, all I had to do was believe. If we’re talking about musical inspiration, then Michaell Jackson was always my idol. Just the way he captivated his audience with his performance. Aaliyah, TLC, Black Rob,Big L & Big Pun were artists that I listened to too when rap & R&B really started to take shape through the early/mid 90s. Later on in my career, I would find Nipsey Hussle was an artist with a great purpose taken too soon. His way of speaking to his audience, engaging with them on a personal level, letting us know that no matter where you come from or what you’ve been through, perseverance, consistency and again self-belief is a key element when striving for greatness.

Tell us about your music.
After releasing mixtapes Dangerous Side A, which is predominately all solo tracks I then went on to release Dangerous Side B which includes feature tracks from UK artists K KOKE, Grim Sickers & many more showing versatility across all elements of my music.

My latest singles The Drill, They Don’t Like Me & overall fan favourite Everything We Do is attracting more listeners by the day reaching new listeners every day which is something I’m forever grateful for.

I’m known best for my work rate and delivery of new music almost every month working on a new album but not before my fans hear another single or two. After dropping yet another single last week (H.E.R) it’s safe to say I have so much more to come

What have you got coming up in the future?
I have a few things lined up this summer. You can catch me performing live at Jam Festival on Saturday 23/07/22 at the Dormans Club, Middlesbrough. After that I shall be flying out to Kavos, Greece to work on the set of a new series Kavos Weekender with ITV. After signing a licensing deal for them to use two of my latest singles Everything We Do & H.E.R on the reality tv show. I shall be doing a few pool parties and private booking on the island this summer so keep your eyes peeled when the tv show gets aired this winter.

Where can people find out more about you?
