Who are you and where are you from?
Hi hi hi , I’m Boo and I’m from Teesside.
What is it you do?
I’ve always made stuff. At the moment I’m focused on music, writing poems/ lyrics, singing and producing music… whenever I feel the impulse. I collect records and DJ too 🙂
I trained in dance when I was younger so I’m looking to incorporate elements of that into the visual aspect of my work, in the future!
How long have you been doing it?
I started years back and somehow lost my way with it all. During lockdown I reconnected with myself and went towards it with a lot of focus and energy.
What inspires you?
The main impetus for me creating is the need to feel better. I find solace this way… in the cathartic release that art offers. Aside from that I’m inspired by moments, brief encounters, the Alvin Ailey dance company, films (Under the Skin, Moonlight), Marcel Duchamp, nature and Burial (my favourite artist ever).
Tell us about your music.
I had to really think about this one. I think my work tries to make sense of the contrast… of life, my personality and my influences – all in one. When I’m in alignment and it comes out effortlessly, it is somewhere in-between order and chaos. Euphoria and destruction. Perfection and imperfection.
What have you got coming up in the future?
I’ve just released my debut single, I See A Halo, on Ratface Records and an accompanying music video. There’s forthcoming remixes from Riot Code, Scension and Snoozy. Im starting a residency on Threads Radio from 17th June which I’m excited about. Aside from that, I’ve got some gigs in the pipeline and starting up Ghetec again with Megan Leo, a fellow DJ and long term friend. We ran it from 2013-2014 and brought artists to the city for the first time. We will continue to inject diversity and fun into clubbing – think candy floss and Ravey music.
