Preview: The Pitmen Poets @ Various Venues

Folk heavyweights Billy Mitchell, Bob Fox and Jez Lowe reunite as The Pitmen Poets for a national tour celebrating the songs, stories and humour of North East coalfield communities. Drawing on decades of collective experience — from Mitchell’s folk‑rock legacy and Fox’s acclaimed traditional singing to Lowe’s internationally recognised songwriting — the trio revive the spirit of pitman poet Tommy Armstrong, weaving together mining‑town history, working‑class life and wry storytelling. What began as a one‑off concert has grown into a much‑loved show mixing powerful songs, rich narrative and warm camaraderie.

The tour begins at East Riding Theatre, Beverley (18th June) before heading to Walker Theatre, Shrewsbury (19th June), The Courthouse, Otley (20th June), The Pavilion, Buxton (25th June), The Witham, Barnard Castle (26th June), Customs House, South Shields (27th June) and The Glasshouse, Gateshead (28th June). July dates include Playhouse, Alnwick (2nd July), Queens Hall, Hexham (3rd July), Civic Theatre, Barnsley (4th July), Forum, Billingham (8th July), Playhouse, Whitley Bay (10th July), Gala, Durham (11th July) and a final show at The Fire Station, Sunderland (12th July).
