Single Exclusive: The Larches – Raxidermy

Teesside’s alt/doom outfit, The Larches, return with Raxidermy (out 6th June), a feral first strike from upcoming EP Nihilistic Majesties (released on Friday 24th July) and we’re delighted to get an exclusive listen to it ahead of release. Where previous release Defenestration Blues hinted at a heavier descent, this one goes all in, showing why it has become a fan favourite in their live set.

Opening with a violent crash before tearing out of the speakers at breakneck speed, the track goes straight for the throat. A blood‑curdling scream cuts through alarming riffs and a fuzzy, grinding wall of guitars, while the vocal attack stays sharp and unrelenting. Thick, mesmeric bass underpins rhythms that swing from punk‑charged assault to doom‑laden stomp before spiralling back into full chaos. Despite the ferocity, the instrumentation is razor‑tight and the crisp, yet atmospheric, production lets every piece lock together. The result is a blistering, brilliantly unhinged statement from one of the North East’s most promising heavy acts.

“Raxidermy was written by Sonny & George who wanted to create some heavy riffage and a track that could open our live set, the track flirts with various time signatures which makes it interesting and we enjoyed piecing it together in rehearsals. Merf and Joel added their bass and rhythm pieces and Noah’s lyrics were perfect to accompany the aggressive angry nature of the track. Raxidermy’s origins are based on a band member’s personal experiences with childhood and broken short lived households.  The track was recorded by Martin Trollope at Harbourmaster Studio’s in South Shields in January as were the rest of the tracks on the EP. We are really happy how the track came out and are really excited about this release and the forthcoming EP in July.”
