Pop Recs in Sunderland hosts a special pre‑release show from Burned As Witches, the new solo project from Ash drummer Rick McMurray, on Tuesday 14th April. McMurray steps out from Ash’s relentless touring cycle to unveil a self‑titled debut that swaps power‑punk hooks for something far heavier — a riff‑soaked, doom‑leaning outpouring built on big solos, crunching chords and full‑throttle intensity. Written and recorded entirely by McMurray, the project began as a way to process the loss of Ash’s long‑time agent and friend Steve Strange, channelling his love of metal into a cathartic, weighty tribute.
