OK, honesty time among those of us around in the mid nineties… Who expected Ash to still be making records nearly 30 years later? Yet here they still are. No, they’re not the teenage wildlife chucking their guts up on hidden album tracks any more, but by hell do they still know their way round an absolutely killer pop song. All their strongest suits are present on Race The Night, from the foot-on-monitor stomper of Like A God, to the wistful, wide-eyed centre-piece Oslo, to the silly japes of Double Dare to the slick radio stylings of the title track.

Sure, there’s the odd forgettable moment, but all told, Race The Night is a worthwhile addition to one of indie rock’s finest discographies.
