Single Exclusive: Polyvinyl – Underground Girl

Polyvinyl Fresh off the momentum of January’s breakout Running From Home, North East alt-indie six‑piece Polyvinyl dive into darker, grittier territory with new single Underground Girl — the second chapter of their unfolding concept EP Where This Ends. 

Sonically, the track growls to life on grungy bass rumbles, booming drums and crunch‑edged guitars, an ominous undercurrent that swells into a chorus where the melody suddenly lifts and the vocal soars — gritty, expansive and unexpectedly epic. Hints of stadium rock flicker through the guitar work, while those bell‑like chimes add a touch of Born to Run drama as the whole thing fades out with a lingering, cinematic glow.

We’re delighted to be given the first listen of this new track ahead of its release on Friday 13th March. Here, the band tell us more about their new single, “Underground Girl is a frustrated reflection of Running From Home; featuring our signature massive chorus and pretty verses, but this time a bit “grungier”. Structurally, it’s a bit like a pop song, but musically, we wanted that frustration to come through, and you can hear that in Annabelle’s voice too. We think it’s a pretty good summation of the sound of our upcoming EP, Where This Ends.”
