Brilliant new album from vintage singer songwriter of Whole Wide World punk single fame. Playtime is over for Wreckless Eric Goulden. This is no time to shilly shally. As he rolls up his sleeves and offers us a lifeline serving up gritty, gravelly, Medway lo-fi riffaholic rock and roll. Lived in, loved up songs crafted on the Food Factory production line. But mamma don’t cry for me.

Marvellously melancholic kitchen sink dramatics are spiced and spliced with true epic high wired chorus lines. Angular, scratch and spiffing guitar, vaudeville piano. Chew the fat with Lady Of The Manor and devour Land Of The Faint At Heart, both surely every bit as catchy as Eric’s 1977 back catalogue. Yet this is contemporary, this is urgent, this is NOW. Wreckless Eric has his finger on the pulse of 21st Century small town England scheming and underachieving. Dig in.
