“Some seek silver and the allure of gold but I was made for the stories to be told”. So sings North Yorkshire singer songwriter Elaine Palmer as she sets her stall out at the opening of a bountiful mini album. Following up from the critically and audience acclaimed Half Moon Rising LP of last year Elaine gets even more transatlantic with an album born in North Yorkshire, recorded in Northern Ireland and finished gloriously in a hill top studio above San Diego, USA.

Rather than monetary riches Elaine expounds on the riches of the heart. Songs born of nature, from Telling of the Bees or ditties like Roses, to the pounding hooky pop of Losing Hand with its petal pulling petulance. The country/folk dial has shifted in favour of country. Elaine at the head of a kicking country band.

Has Elaine’s golden voice ever sounded better? Her vocals ranging from soft, melodic, endearing to powerhouse and empowering, fuelling kick ass country rock or tender tales of yearning and loss. The instrumentation and production is truly on another level. Polished but still edgy.

Majestic mellow melodies explore recurring themes of the cruel, indifference of nature and counting down the calendar and the clock… time is never really on your side you know… we only have so many sunrises to go.

If our remaining sunrises are spent listening to Elaine Palmer’s beautifully crafted songs then there is comfort in this troubled world.
