The Newcastle-based indie quartet give us an exclusive listen to their brand new single, ahead of its release on Friday 11th July
Following the success of their debut EP ‘King of the World’ in 2023, Newcastle-based indie outfit Cat Ryan return to the fold with their upcoming single Amsterdam, out on 11th July.
With luminous, melodious vocals, bright, intricate guitar work, and shuffling rhythms, the track is a finely crafted, quirky, and irresistibly catchy slice of indie-pop — and we’re delighted to have had an exclusive first listen.
The band’s songwriter and lead-singer Mary-Anne Murphy tells us more about the single, “Amsterdam is a song I first wrote in 2018, in the early days of Cat Ryan. It’s one that sat quietly for years, but never felt finished until now. I was a lot younger when I wrote it, so I was still figuring out my style. Coming back to it now was less about rewriting and more about letting it find its proper sound. Having re-recorded and self-produced with my bandmate Dan, the track reflects where we are now creatively while holding onto the simplicity of its original form and the character of my early sound.”
