So… how was your 2024?
Tumultuous. The rate of change in the world continues to ramp up and my personal life has become a blur in an attempt to keep pace. But, this has brought growth and I’m sure I’ll look back on the year fondly.
What was your best moment?
Falling in love
And your worst moment?
Realising it wasn’t real
Who was your favourite band/artist this year?
Theo Katzman, he’s impeccable and has the best-sounding band right now.
Your favourite song of the year?
Birds of a feather – Billie Eilish got a lot of rotation.
Recommended album?
Do people still listen to albums?
Favourite TV show of the year?
TV is over. I’m right into Financial Audit on YouTube at the moment.
Your favourite film?
This year I watched Meet Me In The Bathroom at Popflix Community Cinema and loved it. Karen O
Best book you read?
I haven’t had the attention span to finish a book since smartphones became ubiquitous. This is definitely a problem.
Favourite new word that you learned?
Kulning – a kind of Nordic singing (check out Shannon Pearl for a great example).
Best podcast?
Starting Strength Radio. I substitute actually getting fit with listening to Mark Rippertoe talk about lifting weights.
Favourite venue that you visited?
Seventeen Nineteen in Sunderland.
What was your favourite gig/show of the year?
Lindsay Hannon Blues Trio at The Old Black Cat Jazz Club in Sunderland.

Lana del Rey. Don’t hate me for being late to the party, I’m here now.
Any up-and-coming artists/acts to keep an eye out for in 2025?
Nobody can touch Fashion Tips right now. Best band in the region. I also really hope Ruby Kelly gets the recognition she deserves this year.
Any predictions for next year?
The map of the USA will be redrawn without Texas and a few other southern states. Young people will drown in a sea of AI-generated pornography and vegetarian food. Bitcoin crosses £100k.
Is there anything you hope to tick off your bucket list in 2025?
I really want to grow some outlandish tomatoes. Like giant, multi-coloured, misshapen monsters. I can’t wait
