It’s always nice to feel like the musical and lyrical content of a song synchronise in a way that they feel almost one. Not just in terms of their actual sonic qualities, but in terms of what they’re trying to accomplish.

Cast Away is a song about pushing your boundaries and making positive changes, about not being afraid to walk the path less taken. It is therefore only fitting that the music does exactly this, remaining interesting and inventive throughout, with unconventional timing and phrasing, whilst still supporting the vocals. Rarely does a song as inventive as this also feel as cohesive and free of gratuitousness. In Cast Away, Living In Shadows have a single that practices what it preaches, while remaining a genuinely good track in its own right.
