PREVIEW: Fuzzy Lights @ The Lubber Fiend

The Unit Ama team only put on a handful of gigs each year – not from indolence, although you never know, but because they’re very picky about who they want to play. Which is why you can absolutely trust them to serve up excellent gigs. And the Fuzzy Lights gig they’re promoting at The Lubber Fiend on Thursday 2^nd April is no exception.

Fuzzy Lights have been around for more than twenty years now, releasing a handful of albums (initially on Little Red Rabbit Records, more recently on Meadows). Last year’s Fen Creatures was particularly well-received – Mojo Magazine said it was ‘the equivalent of Sandy Denny starring in Hammer Horror film Blood On Satan’s Claw’ (and wouldn’t you watch the hell out of that?), while Uncut said it was ‘pitched somewhere between Pentangle and Black Sabbath’. Which gives you a good idea of what Fuzzy Lights are up to – a canny blend of folk and psych, with touches of drone and electronic textures. And their songs are full of ideas too – Fen Creatures looks at the environmental crisis and the state of humanity from their vantage point at home in the fens.
