We love a good multi-venue music festival, particularly when all the venues are within staggering distance. Sunderland has been crying out for such an event and the good folks at Independent have finally made it happen.

Waves will take place on Saturday 6th November at five venues across the City – The Peacock, Independent, The Bunker, The Ship Isis and Live Lounge. Independent’s Ben Richardson says: “We’re super excited to finally be launching Sunderland’s very own inner-city festival, Waves. It’s been a long time in the making but we’re happy, after the last two years, to just get cracking on with it. This year we’re treating it as a pilot, getting some of the city’s best music spaces and the region’s best acts involved for a great day, but also as a little test, ready to grow year on year.”

The festival will feature local talent at its heart, with line-ups put together by guest curators. Among the first announcements are indie popsters Club Paradise, rapper Philth Like, pop-punks bigfatbig, acclaimed songwriter Faye Fantarrow, up and coming talent Lottie Willis, riotous rockers noyou, soul sensation Nadedja, pop songwriter Sophia and electro duo SQUARMS.

Tickets cost a measly tenner, so we predict a sell-out well before the date rolls around. Get on it now!
