Live music might be done for 2020 in the real world but in the virtual scene they are just carrying on as they have done throughout lockdown and giving us our much needed fix of all that’s great and good about a gig.

One of the venues that have been incredibly pro-active in dishing out the sounds digitally throughout lockdown is The Globe, a community-owned, multi-genre music venue in Newcastle. Their innovative live streams taking place three days a week have brought the finest Folk, Americana, Rock, Blues, Jazz and Classical to your phone and computer screen.

Their Sunday night Jazz sessions have been their most popular events and throughout December they continue to beam performances from the finest Jazz musicians from their stage and into your home.

First up on Sunday 6th is multi-award-winning pianist Fergus McCreadie, along with David Bowden (double bass) and Stephen Henderson (drums), who make up his trio. The band are renowned for their thrilling virtuosity and brilliantly attuned collective dynamism, which has seen them receive invitations to appear at Ronnie Scotts’ International Piano Trio Festival as well as at Oslo and Stockholm jazz festivals.

Then on Sunday 13th, North East born guitarist Francis Tulip and his quintet, featuring a stellar lineup of Birmingham and London based musicians, bring a showcase of music rooted firmly in the jazz tradition with a modern approach, and original repertoire.

Finishing things off, on Sunday 20th, is vocalist, songwriter and Parliamentary Jazz Awards’ Jazz Vocalist of the Year, Zoë Gilby, alongside her double bassist husband Andy Champion, guitarist Mark Williams and drummer Russ Morgan. Their engaging repertoire includes an adventurous blend of contemporary composers from Kate Bush to Pink Floyd and the sensitive treatment of jazz standards.
