Reliably informed

He is as funny as he is grumpy. He always seems to be grumpy, so it logically follows that he is also always funny. To call this Virginian gruff would underplay his gruffness, but don’t be fooled, Rich Hall is an incredibly witty observer of all that is wrong in life.

Having lived in the UK on and off for 23 years Hall has a pretty good appreciation of the rubbishness of England as well as his native US (where he has a ranch), and his material brilliantly picks up on the obvious wrongness of much of what goes on in our daily lives. Hall always brings along his alter ego Otis Lee Crenshaw, the Redneck jailbird Moe Szyslak lookalike, who will undoubted play a few comedy infused Waits-esque numbers on his gee-tar. He may have won a few Perrier Awards, but give him two fingers of Knob Creek any day.

If you haven’t seen Rich Hall on TV it’s time to unwrap yourself from that tin foil and get along to Whitley Bay Playhouse on Saturday 9th or Gala Theatre on Sunday 10th May, but unless you can give as good as you get, I’d avoid sitting on the front row…
