If you’ve been searching for an honest DIY group art show that showcases the current cultural climate with zero airs and graces, then look no further than the Pitmatics Art & Shite exhibition at B&D Studios, Newcastle from Thursday 1st until Wednesday 14th February.

Self-titled as ‘Ashington’s favourite sons’, these Northumbrian artists have come together to form a powerful art collective to put a playful yet perceptive spin on the workings of modern life in the North East.

Expect to feel a heart-warming sense of the familiar with photography, pop art and sculptures which offer a catalyst for the unique dynamic of life in the Northumberland range. From the tongue-in-cheek, oft politically inspired narratives from Skip Doncaster, to social documentary photography from Simon Foster, there’s a whole host of mediums being used to comment on our contemporary culture. Painter Steve Pirt brings beauty to the industrial subject matter with his watercolour pieces; Tristan Sturgeon sparks scenarios to life with his bold acrylic work; while an impressionist influence can be clearly detected with the landscape scenes from Iain Bolton, which tie up this art show with a stamp of acceptance from their native town.
