Two very special events are lined up as part of Girls on Film: Visualising Feminities in Contemporary Culture, as a talk at Northumbria University is followed up with an awesome music gig at The Cumberland Arms, which sees Girls On Film hosting a unique evening of music, bringing together an eclectic range of acts who all use and disrupt conventional ideas of the female and the feminine in innovative ways, all taking place on Monday 23rd May.

Marking the 40th anniversary of Laura Mulvey’s seminal text Visual Pleasure and Narrative Cinema, as with that text, the keynote speakers explore the way in which cinema constructs an interface between active/male and passive/female, while also looking at the visualising and (re)imagining of femininities in contemporary literature, fine art, performance, and on screen. All rounded out by a perfectly selected line-up as Tough Tits and DJ Lady Annabella are set to massively captivate and entertain at The Cumberland Arms on the evening.
