Preview: LED ON @ The Cumberland Arms, Newcastle

LED ON arrives at The Cumberland Arms on 8th and 9th August, presenting a new transportable animated projection installation created by North East animator Richard, working under his pseudonym Lazerray. Developed over just under two months, the project grew from a desire to experiment with animation techniques and create a showcase that gives music‑driven visuals the space and attention they rarely receive in traditional gallery settings. As Richard explains, “I wanted to experiment with some animation techniques… and thought the best way to do that is to make some music videos” .

LED ON features bespoke animations created for tracks by multiple North East artists, with the installation designed to loop continuously so visitors can drop in, stay as long as they like, and experience the work in a relaxed, welcoming environment. The project is intentionally free to attend, reflecting Richard’s aim to make discovery accessible.

Across the two‑day event, audiences can expect a varied soundtrack from acts including American Wrestling, Black Rain, Class Gymnast, Ellen Moss, Groundbird, Hivemind, J.G. Winter, Kirsty Hall, Ladakee, Milne Glendinning Band, Monsav, Nano Kino, Perisher, Radikal Queen, Ten Eighty Trees and Yeti Thieves. Future pop‑up dates across the region are planned for later in the year.
