As theatres prepare to turn off their ghost light and welcome audiences back to their spaces once again, Sunderland Empire have announced plans to broadcast a series of very special performances.

The Ghostlight Sessions will mark the theatre’s 114th birthday and will showcase some of the city’s most exciting talent including The Futureheads, bigfatbig, Faye Fantarrow, Picnic, Field Music and The Lake Poets. Recorded by local producers Motorhouse Studios (who are no strangers to superb livestreamed content themselves), the free to view performances start on Thursday 8th July with The Futureheads presenting their spiky melodic post-punk, with performances taking place every Monday and Thursday until Monday 26th July and showing off some of the iconic spaces within the theatre.

Marie Nixon, Sunderland Empire’s theatre director, said: “We’re so pleased to have such incredible Sunderland artists at all stages of their careers playing live from our beautiful theatre. It’s so important to us to support the creative community in Sunderland and every artist who has worked on this project be they musicians or illustrators, filmmakers or technicians makes a huge contribution to our city’s creative life. We’re delighted to be sharing their work with all of our wonderful audiences this summer.”
