Reliably informed

Leeds’ indie rock and rollers Askies are playing their debut Newcastle show at Little Buildings on Friday 26th October in support of The Adlets, before that, we got to know the band a little better.

So, tell us a bit about yourself and what you do?
We are Askies, an indie rock band from Leeds. Formed of Ben on Drums, Nathan on Bass, George on vocals/guitar and Josh on lead guitar. We met in 2017 at Uni, and we’ve been writing tunes together since then. We’d describe our sound as consisting of groovy verses mixed with big choruses, just anything that gets people moving really!

What’s the first record you ever bought?
So our first albums are pretty varied, but Nathan’s was by far the stand out being Crazy Hits, the debut studio album by the one and only Crazy Frog. On a less serious note, 9 year old George was enjoying the Bryan Adams 11 album, whilst Ben and Josh were listening to a combination of Busted and the Chilli Peppers.

What’s your guilty pleasure musically?
It has to be Every Time We Touch – Cascada.

Favourite film of all time?
Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, an absolute classic.

Your guilty pleasure film?
Ben insisted that he watches a Christmas movie every year called Dogmas, but we’re yet to locate it, we’re thinking it might be a home video.

If you could recommend one TV series to binge watch, what would it be?
Continuing with the western theme from question four, Godless is a quality series, well worth the watch.

Your favourite book?
Christmas of ’07 was filled with the delightful read, Guinness Book Of Records 2008.

Who or what makes you laugh the most?
We always appreciate some good one liners, and Nathan has a weird obsession with spoonerisms.

Who or what makes you sad?
At the moment we’re going through a big FIFA 15 phase, and sometimes the ball doesn’t load in when you start a game. After all that team management, it’s such a shame to see it go to waste.

If you had super power, what would it be?
The ability to make any chair comfy would be the most practical, but I guess I wouldn’t mind flying either.

And finally, you get to play a board game with any three famous people from history, who do you choose and what’s the board game?
We’d love to play a good old game of Cluedo with Bob Ross, James Acaster and Eric Clapton.

Askies play Little Buildings, Newcastle on Friday 26th October.
