In recent years there’s been an upsurge in bands and producers who deal in early 90s-inspired house and techno. Disclosure, Joy Orbison, the newest output from Cavin Harris and most recently BBC Sound of 2015 winners Years & Years have all adopted the distinctive sound. One duo were there before them all though: Nick Harriman and Alfie Granger-Howell, aka Dusky. With an extensive and impressive catalogue of original material and remixes, Dusky are one of the biggest names on the underground dance scene. As part of their latest UK tour, they’re bringing their killer dance tunes to Newcastle’s Digital on Friday 30th January.

Dusky’s latest single Yoohoo epitomises everything innovative about the duo; like Disclosure they’ve taken the classic sounds of techno from the early nineties and put a very contemporary spin on it, adding hushed R’n’B vocals and modern beats to a classic house piano line. Expect them to spin it at Digital, alongside their many remixes of others, including Hot Chip and Cloud 9. A storming way to kick off the weekend.

Dusky play Newcastle’s Digital on Friday 30th January.
