New art exhibition Double Dropping on a Phantom Island launches at The NewBridge Project in Gateshead on Friday 20th July. The new work from Declan Colquitt and Michaela Cullen is curated by Bloc Projects and Caustic Coastal as part of Life in a Northern Town and runs until Sunday 12th August.

The collaborative work explores ideas of recollection by drawing on a history of Irish pilgrimage and Northern dance music. Inspired by the temporalities of childhood and looking at suspended time mythology the two works explore some unique themes.

The film work from Cullen tries to understand friendship and upbringing in a disorientating piece.

Colquitt’s soundtrack is a visceral navigation of recent Northern dance culture. It jumps off from early camera phones for a lo-fi digital soundscape alongside a series plexiglass panels that exploit the limitations of the camera for a strong narrative.
